If you haven’t heard of Rain Boy before, here’s the story. I remember seeing this on Unsolved Mysteries, and the video segment is below for you to watch.
Don Decker, was dubbed the “Rain Boy” in 1983 when he inexplicably started making rain appear, inside the house and other places. Every day between 3 o’clock and 5 o’clock something would happen to Donnie or around him. Many think that his now deceased grandfather was somehow controlling him in some demonic way.
Donnie was keeping a secret. His grandfather had been sexually abusing him for years. But he never told anyone. After his grandfather died, he was now free of the abuse. But his family talked about his grandfather like he was some kind of saint. But Donnie knew the truth – he was an abuser.
The raining inside the house, his jail cell, and restaurant started just after his grandfather had died. Did the emotions from Donnie make the rain appear? It seems more like a poltergeist case to me. It’s almost a classic case. It’s possible that his grandfather had possessed him somehow. But from the evidence and witnesses, in my opinion, Donnie made this happen himself.
Donnie listened to everyone say wonderful things about his grandfather, and I’m sure he hated it. Classic poltergeist activity is normally from an adolescent in the family with some emotional or sexual problems. And their emotions cause the poltergeist activity. This is what happened in this case. Donnie would have definitely been emotionally troubled after what his grandfather had done to him. I would be.
There are several witnesses to Donnie being levitated in mid air and then flung against the wall. He was always present when it rained. And Donnie even told one prison guard that he could control it, and displayed the control to the guard making it rain on another guard sitting at his desk.
Eventually, Donnie was exorcised and the rain went away. But the case is fascinating still to this day. I don’t know how it feels to be called “Rain Boy” most of my life. But I assume it wasn’t a fun childhood. Donnie is now just a normal boy all grown up, without the rain following him around. It’s a somewhat happy ending to a really incredible story.
I don’t know if I ever would want the power to control rain. But it might come in handy at some point in my life. It’s a good thing that his ability went away, so he didn’t end up being prodded and poked by scientists trying to figure out how he did it. He doesn’t need to re-live abuse over and over again. So it ends well I guess. Wonder if anyone else has ever been able to do what Donnie was able to do, even if for a short time. I haven’t seen any other stories of this type of phenomena, so this is probably a very unique case and will remain so. But still interesting, don’t you think?
