The New Zodiac: Ophiuchus Causing Frustration and Confusion

new zodiac calendar and dates

For those of you who haven’t heard yet, if that’s possible, there is a new zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, who has been added to our known 12 zodiac signs. This is just a crime!

That’s why I’m putting this post into the “Unsolved Crimes” category, because that’s what I think about this upside down zodiac fiasco they have thrown us for the new year.

As you can see by the new dates, most people’s sign has changed, and some have a brand spanking new sign. And I don’t even know how to pronounce it yet. But, relax, this isn’t official by any means. And as I understand, the change only affects the sidereal zodiac, not the tropical zodiac. Most people (westerners) have used and are familiar with the tropical zodiac, which does not change. The sidereal zodiac changes constantly, because it uses the stars and constellations, and not the seasons as the tropical zodiac. And this is where the debate is currently at. No official changes have been made, only speculation of what it should be. But, there are new dates and new signs. What’s the deal? If nothing really has changed, why do we have a new zodiac sign and a new zodiac calendar? Sounds fishy to me!

Now, I was born a Libra, and I intend to stay a Libra. But according to the new dates, I am now a Virgo. Hogwash! I’m still a Libra, and I know this, because we don’t like CHANGE!

We now know why this change has come about. The Earth’s rotation around the sun has changed positions since the zodiac signs were created 3,000 years ago. So, it’s obvious, they say, that our zodiac is off as well, by a about a month. There has always been 13 signs to the zodiac, it was just that the ancient Babylonians only wanted 12 signs, and poor Ophiuchus was discarded. But he was still in the sky when we were born!

As we discussed this at work, I got to wondering. Does that mean the personality traits of our current zodiac is wrong as well? I mean, the traits of a Libra may in fact be the actual traits for a Virgo, but we had just named them wrong all along.

So I could still have the old Libra traits, but now I just rename those same traits as Virgo traits. Because that’s what I was all along. So I mustn’t worry I guess. I’m still me. I’m not going to change my personality just because my sign has changed, or maybe changed.

Ophiuchus- the 13th sign

And by the way, they announced this new zodiac sign and the new dates in 2007. But it didn’t seem to bother people then. But now, it’s gone viral. Why now?

And who are the people that have the authority to change our zodiac anyway? There are whole industries revolved around the zodiac and horoscopes. That messes a lot of people up! Most are saying that the only reason is for them to even announce this change, is to drum up business for the astrology and astronomy. Looks like its doing a good job. It’s everywhere!

I guess the debate between astrologers and astronomy will continue. I wonder who’s going to win? Probably the one person who was born a Ophiuchusian! Ha!

My question is, if every sign is suppose to have a natural element that follows it, hence(Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius,)(Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius,) (Earth: Taurus,Virgo, Capricorn,) and, (Water: Pisces, Cancer, & Scorpio,) then what element does Ophiuchus fall under? Or is that just another unsolved mystery?

They are leaving the Zodiac alone. Nothing is changing as far as I can tell. You will keep your horoscope sign as always. Why they even bothered with this is beyond me, it’s actually old news. But for some reason people got upset this time around. But nothing is changing.
